GENERAL REMINDER

All submissions must be accompanied by a signed copyright declaration those without may not be evaluated.

The IPC performs a double-blind review of the academic program proposals: full & short papers, panels and roundtable discussions; to this end, please do not include information that would identify the author of the submission (failure to comply may result in disqualification). Names of authors will be cited in the published volume of conference proceedings. Accepted authors will be asked to add their names to the final version ready for publication after review.

Incomplete proposals will not be evaluated.

STATUS OF PROPOSALS/PUBLICATIONS:
All article proposals must be original and must not have been submitted simultaneously to another review, conference, or symposium. All proposals of creative or artistic works will be considered, with a preference for recent works. All submissions must be accompanied by a signed copyright declaration. Articles of all lengths, as well as summaries of round table discussions, will be published in the ISEA2023 Conference Proceedings.
In addition to the classical proceedings, the proposals putting the image at the center of their research will be selected for publication in the online revue .able. This revue, which will open in 2022, will offer unique publication methods that are resolutely focused on the image.

LANGUAGES:
The event’s official languages are French and English. Oral presentations may be made in one of these two languages. Abstracts must be written in English, as well as the submissions themselves, and may be accompanied by copies in the author(s)’ first language.

ARTISTIC WORKS

ARTISTIC WORKS
We accept submissions for interactive pieces, performances, projections, installations, in-situ works, trans-disciplinary projects, workshops, videos, experimental presentations, photography, events in the public space, concerts, and more. Please note that we may accept works that are not directly linked to ISEA2023’s thematic orientations, but which fall under ISEA’s general sphere of action.

We highly encourage early-career artists to submit.Fill out the submission form, including:

  • An artist biography for the participating artist(s) (300 words or fewer).
  • An artistic proposal (300 – 800 words).
  • An explanation of the work’s thematic link to ISEA (200 – 500 words).
  • Images, sketches, drafts, books, videos, etc.
  • Technical specifications.
  • Artist’s CV.
  • Estimated budget and indications of pre-existing financial support.

The submission must be accompanied by a declaration of copyright.

Artistic proposals will be evaluated by a jury composed of international experts occupying influential positions in the art world: directors of cultural structures, independent curators, art critics, researchers, etc., according to the aforementioned evaluation criteria.

Rejected proposals may be accepted in the form of artist presentations or posters.

PRESENTATION FORMATS: ACADEMIC PROGRAM

ISEA2023 is committed to presenting the most innovative forms of knowledge restitution possible.
Thus it is possible for each of the submission categories to present one of the following 4 presentation formats :

Format 1 (F1) :
Traditional presentation (speakers statiques).

Format 2 (F2) :
Performed presentation specifically proposed by the candidate.

Format 3 (F3) :
Presentation adapting to one of the formats specific to the category when specified : Dissect, Posters brunch, etc.

Format 4 (F4) :
The hybrid format includes all other possible forms (videoconferences, films, etc.).

Applications should specify one or the other of these formats. For format 2, a proposal for an additional page explaining the desired shape and the minimum required technical characteristics is expected.

FULL PAPERS WITH ORAL PRESENTATION
  • Submit 5-8 pages on ISEA2023 platform. Please ensure that the PDF file contains no author-related information (no institutional affiliation, biographical details, author name(s) etc). in the text, including explicit self-citations, be they in footnotes or the bibliography. If you are accepted, you will be asked to add your name to the final version ready to be published after review.
  • Accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings and will be allotted 20 minutes’ presentation time (including Q&A).
  • Peer-review of full papers is double-blind and concerns at least 2 anonymous independent reviewers from the International Programming Committee (IPC). Papers are classed based on quality, relevance, originality, and impact. The Academic Committee & the Chairs will make their final decisions based on anonymous reviewers’ recommendations. Rejected articles may be considered as poster or panel submissions.
SHORT PAPERS WITH ORAL PRESENTATION
  • Submit no more than 2-4 pages on the ISEA2023 platform. Please make sure your PDF file contains no author-specific information (institutional affiliation, biographical details, author name(s) etc.) in the text, including explicit self-citations, be they in footnotes or the bibliography. If you are accepted, you will be asked to add your name to the final version ready to be published after review.
  • Accepted articles will be published in the conference proceedings and will be allotted 15 minutes’ presentation time (including Q&A).
  • Peer-review of short papers is double-blind and concerns at least 2 anonymous independent reviewers from the International Programming Committee (IPC). Papers are classed based on quality, relevance, originality, and impact. The Academic Committee & the Chairs will make their final decisions based on anonymous reviewers’ recommendations. Rejected articles may be considered as poster or panel submissions.
    PANELS & ROUND TABLES
    • Submit a panel proposal of 2-4 pages containing an introduction and abstracts from individual participants (3-5 people) on the ISEA2023 platform. Please make sure that your PDF file contains no author-related information (no institutional affiliation, biographical details, author name(s) etc.) in the text, including explicit self-citations, be they in footnotes or the bibliography.
      Abstracts of accepted panels will be published in the conference proceedings and will be allotted 60 minutes’ presentation time, including Q&A and subject to adjustment based on the number of speakers.
    • Peer-review of panel proposals is double-blind and overseen by the International Programming Committee (IPC) and ranked according to quality, relevance, originality and impact. In the event of a split jury, an additional reviewer may be invited to evaluate the proposal. The Academic Committee & the Chairs make their final decisions based on the evaluation and recommendations of the IPC.
    POSTERS & DEMONSTRATIONS
    • Submit an abstract of no more than 2 pages on the ISEA2023 platform. Posters / demonstrations proposals need not be anonymized.
    • Abstracts for accepted posters will be published in the conference proceedings; works will be allotted a wall space (with electricity and internet connectivity by request) at the conference venue. Creators of accepted posters will be requested to stand by their allotted location during a scheduled poster tour to take place during the Symposium.
    • Abstracts of posters / demonstrations will be selected by conference chairs based on quality, relevance, originality, and impact. The Academic Committee & the Chairs will make their final decisions based on the IPC’s recommendations.
    WORKSHOPS & TUTORIALS
    • Workshops and tutorials may take place over the course of a half-day, full day, or two days. Accepted workshops will be announced on the ISEA2023 website. Organizers may then launch their own call for proposals and submit a one-page abstracts of their project for the programme.
    • To propose a workshop, submit a 2-4 page workshop proposal including the following elements:

    Maximum 3 pages.
    Title of the workshop/tutorial.
    Duration: half day, 1 day or 2 days.
    Abstracts (ready for publication).
    Target audience for this workshop (academics, professionals, general public).
    – Short biographies of the workshop organizers.
    – Strategy for soliciting participation.
    – Equipment needed for the workshop.
    – Preferences for potential exhibition of the results of the workshop during the symposium.
    – Links to relevant online materials.

     

        INSTITUTIONAL PRESENTATIONS
        • We welcome proposals for institutional presentations from communities working on matters pertinent to ISEA2023’s thematic orientations.
          Institutional presentations are intended to be networking opportunities and forums through which institutions such as museums, NGOs, networks, schools, and companies can introduce themselves to the community and discuss topics such as organization, finances, and curatorial concerns.
        • Submit a proposal of no more than 2 pages on the ISEA2023 platform.
        • Institutional presentations be allotted 10 minutes’ presentation time, as well as a space for presenting posters, brochures, banners, and other relevant materials. Specific space requirements for larger-format exhibitions and displays can be accommodated under certain conditions. Please be sure to note them in the proposal.
        • Please note that proposals for institutional presentations need not be made anonymous.
          Institutional presentations will be selected by the ISEA2023 Organizing Committee.
        ARTIST TALKS & WORK-IN-PROGRESS PRESENTATIONS
        • Submit a proposal of 2-4 pages on the ISEA2023 platform with links to pertinent documentation. Artist talks/work-in-progress presentation proposals need not be made anonymous.

        • Accepted artist talks/work-in-progress presentations be allotted 10 minutes’ presentation time.
        • Proposals for artist talks/work-in-progress presentations will be selected by Chairs based on quality, relevance, originality, and impact. The Academic Committee & the Chairs will make their final decisions based on the IPC’s recommendations
